So, yes, I've been really bad at updating. Everything becomes a habit, including not doing something. In any case, allow me to be even lazier by just posting this: London Preppy is back!

omg

Yelle's new track!!!

"Qui est cette fille?"--Robyn's "Who's That Girl" cover.

Is a new album coming out soon? I hope so. In any case, OK Go and Mika are both releasing new albums later this year. That's exciting. They have nothing in common, of course. Well, OK Go's lead singer looks kinda like Mika. In other words, they're both cute.

oh lately it's so quiet in this place...

So darlin' if your not here haunting me
I'm wondering...

Whose house, are you haunting tonight?
Aw. Whose sheets you twist
Aw. Whose face you kiss
Whose house, are you haunting tonight?

In sign language--kind of awesome. Doesn't hurt, of course, that he's really cute.

City of Angels

I usually complain a lot when I'm in Bangkok, and regular readers of this blog will know that I don't particularly love the City of Angels (even though I spent 18 years in it).

But to wake up this morning to the horrible images from the streets of Bangkok was quite a jolt. In a NYT article, a Thai woman was interviewed and she said something along the lines of "This has never happened before. I've only seen these pictures in the news, like in Isreael, Lebanon, etc" and the quote almost brought me to tears.

After all it is where I grew up. I have many fond memories (and bad, too, of course) of Bangkok. The streets where the "battles" happened, some of them I know practically by heart because of the daily commute to school. Despite the traffic, the pollution, etc. one thing I've always felt when I walk in Bangkok's streets is that it feels safe. Corny, yes, but, it's homely.

I'm not angry; I'm just really sad that images of "war-zone" Bangkok are now part of the city's legacy forever. I guess I do love the city after all.

lickerish

This is awesome:

In Anglo-French, the verb "lecher" has two meanings, "to lick" and "to live in debauchery." From that verb came the English adjective "lickerous" in the 14th century. By the mid-17th century "lickerous" had fallen into disuse, leaving us with the variant "lickerish." "Lickerish" was originally cooked up as word to describe both a person who is fond of good food and the tempting food itself. The lexical temptation to extend these appetitive meanings of "lickerish" was very soon satisfied, and the word became a synonym of "greedy" and "desirous." Its use was then extended to describe people and things having or suggesting lustful desires, a use in line with the "to live in debauchery" meaning of its French ancestor.
